Old Bollywood film posters

I had always wondered, what if type was put forth first in making of a Devanagari poster and what better than some old Hindi films I adore to put this theory to test. These posters borrow stylistic characters from type trends that were prevalent in Autumn of 2023. I wanted to see what happens when a funky hand-lettering digital style is exposed to a different script. Does it feel unusual or is the style able to convey its essence and energy?

As a personal exercise, I wanted to make the posters as illegible as possible. Often when designing in Devanagari, the first feedback I receive is how the type is or is not readable and legible. Often the factor of visuality or 'how cool it looks' is not considered. Any deviation from function is considered an anomaly while it seems a normal practice in English and Latin scripts to not be functional and be purely aesthetic.
